When Pom Pom announced that they were closing I may have gone a little ham on buying physical copies of their magazines and books.
I thought it could be fun to go through the books I picked up and what patterns drew me to picking these specific issues/collections. And where I am able, what yarn I already have on hand I could see myself using. Since there is a limit for the email version of this platform I am cutting it down to one or two per book!
Issue 31: Winter 2019
This is a knit flat and I think seamed garment (aside from the sleeves). I again really like the simple but textured elements of it. I think the only thing I could see modifying would be to add patch pockets.
Cabinet: Azurite 02 from Ampersand Fibers
I mean do I really have to say anything? It’s the cover sweater for a reason! I’ve been obsessed with this sweater for awhile and I would love to knit it. While the sample calls for mohair and merino, I think I would prefer to knit it in a regular DK weight. Sometimes suri can be a little tooo fluffy and it takes away from any texture you are working up. But mohair feels like a thousand tiny knives so that won’t work.
Cabinet: Spiced Peach from EKF
Issue 38: Autumn 2021
I love the texture this sweater has! It looks really fun and I like the squishy look to the sleeves. This is knit at a bulky weight.
Cabinet: N/A
Issue 30: Autumn 2019
The textured yoke feels different and more subdued. I really liked that little extra bit of interest in this sweater.
Cabinet: Grove on a natural DK base from Woolberry Fiber Co.
This sweater has been living rent free in my mind for years and I don’t know why it took me so long to buy a copy.
Cabinet: MC: A grey color from Apple Hill Farms, CCs: EKF “Exordium” , “Barcelonetta”, “Daybreak” and, "To the Stars Who Listen.”
Moon and Turtle Book
I just want to wear this around the house all day, at work, at coffee shops, everywhere. The color detail on the collar is that little extra something and the pockets look HUGE. It is knit at an aran/worsted weight
Cabinet: N/A
I already have plans to knit one hood in January (more on that later) but I would like more because I think that could by my solution to wanting a warm head but not wanting to totally squash my curls.
Cabinet: Grumpy Sunshine from Coast to Coast Yarn Co.
Knits about Winter
For the sake of space, I want to knit all of the mittens. They look incredibly cozy and quick to whip up.
I already know that this sweater will be a big project and would take awhile to complete but I love the side detail. It’s super pretty and feels extra special.
Cabinet: N/A simply because the yardage required is way higher than anything I have on hand. Unless I could get away with a DK and then maybe Woolen Oaks on DK.
Embody
I think with this one I am more drawn to the sewing pattern. Oversized dresses are so comfortable and I think I could play with the sizing to make it not as oversized on me. The tank version of the Woolfork feels like something I could make several versions of and wear all season.
Mouche and Friends
Honestly I want to knit them all! But I would love to knit up a wolf and a duck sooner rather than later.
While not a Pom Pom book, I picked it up and had to include it in this little round up.
Conclusion
I really enjoyed reading through all of these books over the past couple of weeks. I felt really inspired and encouraged that most of what I wanted to work up, I had the yarn on hand already. If you haven’t checked out Pom Pom, I highly recommend doing so!
Next week I think is a double feature so stay tuned.
Are the books still on sale? These patterns are so beautiful...
They all look so wonderful!
