Lets Make Everything
an unexpectedly perfect weekend
I think that a perfect weekend can’t be overly planned for. It’s something that just happens.
A perfect weekend:
Time with friends
Eating good food
Making stuff
Reading
Cooking
Time outside
This is exactly the weekend I had a few weeks ago and I arrived at Sunday night with this general pleasant feeling of a weekend that was restorative. I got to sew with a friend, bake, run, play video games, read and spend time with Drew without feeling like I was running around like a crazy person.
Post marathon I’ve suddenly found myself with more time that I hadn’t realized slipped away from me. Or rather I am finding energy to use time in the ways that make me happy. Spending an entire weekend just doing things that you enjoy and having time to settle into being truly relaxed is something earned rather than guaranteed when you are a type-A hyper productive gremlin.
A relaxing weekend is earned when relaxing itself is a learned skill. Spending time learning how to let go and enjoy time takes a lot of practice. Unlearning the habits of never sitting still for more than 20 minutes if there was daylight and yard work to be done. It makes space for homemade banana bread and cardamom buns in the same weekend.
The house still got mostly cleaned and we ended up with a great dinner on Sunday night that gives us lunch on Monday.
Sort of a follow up from last week but I am trying to stretch out and sink into time well spent. Time doing the things that are restorative and just plain fun.
I owe y’all TWO sewing posts!
till next time
